Explain the relationship between a media genre and society
The Achievement Standard requires you to explain, analyse and evaluate the relationship between society and a media genre. Our study examines the relationship of the western hemisphere ( Europe and the United States ) as the society and the genre of Science Fiction Film over the time period 1927 - 2007.
We start our study with Laing's Metropolis (1927) and end with the films of Andrew Niccol - **The Truman Show**, Gattaca and S1m0ne.
The standard expects you to have some familiarity, outside of the final three films, with the developments, themes and debates raised in science fiction films over the time period.
We will consider the following films:
